Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
